Privacy Policy

Last updated: 27 February 2026

1. Who we are

Suntr (“we”, “us”, “our”) is a real-time sun and shade prediction service for outdoor venues in Spain. We are the data controller responsible for personal data processed through suntr.app.

Contact: thomascarson87@gmail.com

2. What data we collect and why

Location data

When you tap “Find Sun Near Me”, your browser requests your GPS coordinates. We use these solely to centre the map and retrieve sun/shade data for nearby venues. Location data is stored only in your browser’s localStorage and is never transmitted to our servers without your action.

Legal basis: Consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)).

Account data

If you create an account we collect your email address and a display name. If you sign in with a social provider (Google, or Facebook / Instagram when available) we receive the name, email address, and profile picture associated with that account. We use this data to authenticate you, personalise your experience, and store favourites and sun observations you save.

Legal basis: Performance of a contract / your request to use the service (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)).

Data obtained via Facebook Login

When you choose to sign in with Facebook or Instagram we request only your public profile (name and profile picture) and email address. We do not request access to your friends list, posts, messages, or any other Facebook data. We use this data only to create and maintain your Suntr account.

You can revoke Suntr’s access to your Facebook data at any time via Facebook › Settings › Apps and Websites. Revoking access does not automatically delete your Suntr account — to request deletion see Section 6 below.

Legal basis: Performance of a contract (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)).

Usage and technical data

We collect error and performance data through Sentry (see Section 4) to diagnose crashes and improve reliability. This may include your browser type, operating system, and anonymised IP address.

Legal basis: Legitimate interests in operating a reliable service (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)).

3. Local storage and cookies

Suntr is a Progressive Web App. We store the following data in your browser’s localStorage to provide the service without repeated requests:

  • Your last known map position (latitude / longitude)
  • Cached venue and shadow data (expires after 10–30 minutes)
  • Your authentication session token

We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. If we add analytics in future, we will update this policy and obtain your consent where required.

5. Data retention

We retain account data for as long as your account is active. Sun observations and favourites you save are kept until you delete them or close your account. Error logs are retained for a maximum of 90 days. Cached shadow computation results in our database are refreshed on a rolling 30-day cycle and do not contain personal data.

6. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

  • Access a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Rectification of inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Erasure (“right to be forgotten”) — delete your account and all associated personal data
  • Portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format
  • Restriction of processing in certain circumstances
  • Objection to processing based on legitimate interests
  • Withdraw consent at any time where we rely on consent (e.g. location access)

To exercise any of these rights, or to request deletion of your data, email thomascarson87@gmail.com. We will respond within 30 days. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority — in Spain this is the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos (AEPD).

7. Children

Suntr is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be notified via the app or by email if you have an account. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page always reflects the current version.

9. Contact
